In this cycle of American politics we have become a living
illustration of the conversation Joshua had with the commander of the Lord’s
heavenly army.
“Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked
up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand.
Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” “Neither,”
he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then
Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message
does my Lord have for his servant?” The commander of the Lord’s army replied,
“Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And
Joshua did so. (Joshua 5: 13-15)
No matter where
we passionately draw our political and social battle lines we only see in part
and prophesy in part. God is always up to something much larger than our
passion can see.
In these times of heated political rhetoric God wants you
to support His agenda and His Kingdom platform.
To do this you may have to step back and forth over lines drawn by
politicians, powerbrokers and religious-sounding groups. You will be in good
company. Jesus did this throughout His ministry on Earth. This is why the
authorities and even His followers could never figure Him out or what He would
do next because they were choosing to see Him through the blinding lens of
human insight and from behind hotly defined man-made battle lines.
It is always holy ground when God is at work and He is at
work in profound ways. Take off your shoes. This is a holy moment in our
history. God is about to bring down the walls that divide us.
