Missing in the national dialogue about our current cultural strife and despair is a discussion about the role of demonic powers. While racial injustice, violence and social wrongs exist and need to be addressed, the real source of their empowerment are dark spiritual forces that must first be confronted before deep and lasting cultural change can occur.
When Jesus cast out demons He was accused by the demons of interfering with their work. The mission of the Church is to interfere with the works of Hell. God wants to lead His Church into a demonstration of power in the marketplace that will cause Hell to complain about our activity. When Jesus confronted demons and cast them out those observing the proceedings remarked, "What sort of new teaching is this? It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!"
While we gather to pray for our cities, protest cultural injustice and initiate new programs these activities will only be seen as bandaids by Hell that only cover the real issue. It is time for new teaching - not new in a Kingdom sense, but new to this generation of believers. This is demonstrated teaching with power that confronts the current demonic onslaught. It is time for the Church to rise above bandaids and move in the demonstrable authority of Jesus Christ that will confront and expel the evil that prowls the streets of our nation unchallenged.
