The Big, Really Big, Love of God

Have you ever wondered about the size of God’s love? In order to try and grasp that reality look with me at some facts about outer space – something God created with just the sound of His voice. Take our sun for example. It is huge. 1.3 million Earths could fit inside our sun. There is a star called VY Canis Majoris located 3,900 light years from Earth. One billion of our suns would fit inside the interior of this star. VY Canis Majoris is so large that a passenger jet traveling at 540 miles per hour would need 1,100 years to circumnavigate the star. In other words if the jet departed in the year 916, in the depths of the Dark Ages, it would be just pulling into the arrival gate at you local airport.

So how big is the love of God? It is more profound in size than the human race will ever be able to calculate no matter how advanced we become. The length, width, depth and height of God's love is without calculation.

Today, stop and place your problems and doubts inside the measurements of the VY Canis Majoris and try to imagine a love beyond the mind-blowing dimensions of that single star. There are trillions and trillions of similar stars hanging in the depths of unexplored space beyond our current ability to probe their existence. Ponder that for a moment. That is the immensity of the love of your God!

This is the God who is aware of a single sparrow falling to the Earth. This is the God who knows the number of hairs on your head. This is the God to whom you pray when things get rough. This is the God who can be trusted because He is the ultimate authority of all things both here on this dinky little planet called Earth or on the surface of VY Canis Marjois and beyond. You can trust His love.

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.” Ephesians 4:18
