Shifting from Complexity to Simplicity

In 2017, futurist David Houle said we had entered what he calls The Shift Age. Houle forecast The Shift Age will take place in the twenty-year period between 2017 and 2037. In those twenty years, cultural change will happen at a rate faster than in any 50 year period of human history.

What does this mean, especially for those representing God to a culture? It means old ways that are cumbersome and overly laden with a religious process will be left in the dust. We are in a Habakkuk moment where our mission and its execution must be simple and able to be communicated on the run. It is a Paul Revere model of ministry able to make announcements from the equivalent of riding on horseback while issuing appropriate warnings to a slumbering culture, and in some cases, a slumbering Church.

God is simplifying all things so that we can live in peace in this time of cultural acceleration. God wants us to simply our message and the content of our faith so it can be easily communicated and lived out in a hurried world. A simplified expression of our faith will become an invitation for people to come and experience the refreshing presence of Jesus. The time of weighing down people with excess religious baggage has ended. A supernatural simplicity is being released. If we can take hold of that simplicity and live it out, God will be able to use us in remarkable ways.
