Prophetic Rudders

A couple of weeks ago, I read a Facebook comment from a friend who was part of a church that Jan and I pastored 30 years ago. My friend shared how he was finally stepping into a calling on his life I had prophesied to him those many years ago. He wasn’t late. He was right on time. It took 30 years to position him for this time in his life. I am proud of his long-term faithfulness.

Some prophetic words can take decades or even an entire lifetime to come to fruition. In our quick-to-see-results world, we can succumb to that same rushed way of thinking when it comes to all things prophetic. We can want it now when our now is still in development.

Don’t be in a hurry to rush the fulfillment of your destiny. God is not the least bit nervous about what is taking place. He is not jogging beside you like a worried parent. He is inviting you to faithfully do what He has asked you to do just like my friend has been doing for the last 30 years. My prophetic word to him was only one of many nudges from the Spirit encouraging him along the way that has led him to this moment in his life. This is his time. Your time will come.

Let God steer your life like a sea captain steers his vessel continually making small heading corrections to the ship's rudder that will eventually navigate his ship and its cargo toward a distant and unseen port of call. Stay faithful and watch God deliver you into places you never thought possible when you first set sail and so much of your life was out of sight just beyond the horizon.
