You Are Becoming The Message You Carry

When you first began to walk with God you were given a message to carry.  As you continue to walk with God and yield to His will, the message will begin to transform all aspects of your life into the image of Jesus Christ.  At some point in this process of transformation your life will actually become the message.

When Jesus came to earth in human form He came as the message of God’s love.  He came this way so we could see and hear what God was like.  He took on our form and language so we could see and understand His message. In essence, to see Jesus was to see God.  To hear Jesus was to hear God. Jesus was modeling for us what we could become by living a life of humility and surrender to the will of God. 

When Paul wrote to the church in Galatia he said, “Oh, my dear children! I feel as if I’m going through labor pains for you again, and they will continue until Christ is fully developed in your lives.” (Galatians 4:19)  Paul chose the word “developed” (other translations use the word “formed”) which means to give an outward expression to the new interior nature that was deposited in our lives at the moment of salvation. From this word we get the English word “morph”.   My wife Jan uses a phrase in her Listening Prayer ministry that describes this process – “You are and are becoming who you already are”. In other words, we are becoming – morphing – into the message we carry.

This message was complete in its initial deposit into our lives, but it has not yet been fully lived out and tested. This living out of the message is a process of becoming – an earthly transformation – into the completed person who now sits with Christ in heaven. What you can become on earth, as you allow the Spirit to transform your life, is a reflection of the completed you who is currently enthroned with Christ in heaven.  This is what the scripture defines as our dual citizenship. Your position in heaven is the greater reality of your identity and that identity will be the final definition of your life.  With this understanding this life can become a confident walk toward the completed person Christ has made you who now sits with Him in heaven.

The by-product of this understanding is the confidence Paul wrote about when he described this morphing process to the church in Corinth; “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:18) To possess this understanding is a life transforming truth.
