When the Word says a peace is available that is beyond your current
ability to understand it does not mean this peace is something you are not able
to experience. The offer of God's peace is not put out in front of you as
something unattainable that continues to run ahead of your life out of reach as
a spiritual tease. This is a supernatural peace that is always available for those who
will go after it and take hold of its blessing.
When Paul wrote about peace, he spoke about a peace that was the
result of a process. This peace was offered to anxious people who had let fear
invade their thinking. Paul said, “Be anxious for nothing…” No matter how valid
the reasons for your anxiety appear to be anxiety is a liar who needs to be
challenged. Instead of allowing anxiety rule and reign in your thinking make an
exchange with God. Paul said to give God your anxiety through prayers of
thanksgiving, “Then
you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.” The
word, “Then”, is so powerful because it reveals the hinge point in the process
of attaining peace. Do the exchange –
then – the peace will come, not before.
If
you continue to hold on to fear and justify its existence it will continue to
lead your response to life instead of being led by the Spirit of God. This is not beyond your ability to do. God will never ask you to do something that
your faith cannot engage and partner with, no matter how weak this season of anxiety
has made you. This is why the act of worshipping,
praying and thanking God, when nothing makes sense, will become the invitation
for this peace to come and invade your thinking displacing the unsettled nature
of your current reality.
