Self-Inflicted Wounds

The greatest damage to our lives doesn’t come from the onslaught of hell or the evil plans of another human being.  The greatest damage comes from self-inflicted wounds. In my own life, I don’t need the devil or an ornery person to cause me harm.  I can do a great job all by myself.  This is more that shooting yourself in the foot.  These self-inflicted wounds are heart shots that target our ability to love.

The magazines for these weapons of self-destruction are loaded with the rounds of doubt, fear, lust, jealousy, anger, division, selfish ambition and envy. The only way to empty these weapons of their destructive potential is through confession, repentance and a strong dose of honesty.

The Holy Spirit is always on duty as our hostage negotiator. He is trying to convince us to put down our weapons of self-destruction and walk out into the brilliant light of God’s love armed only with truth and transparency.
